Discover the interview with Simon Bourgeois: pro rugby player at RCV & R&D trainee at Elixance!
For several months now, we’ve been welcoming Simon Bourgeois, a student in Master 1 Eco-design of Polymers and Composites – ECPC at Lorient’s Faculty of Science & Engineering and professional rugby player with the RCV.
5 questions to Simon Bourgeois :
Can you introduce yourself?
My name is Simon Bourgeois and I’m a pro at RCV Vannes. I’ve been with the RCV since high school, playing for the junior team and then the espoir team, where I also pursued my university studies. For the past two years, I’ve been part of the professional team while pursuing a master’s degree in biomaterials. It’s only natural that I should turn to Elixance, a partner of the RCV for the past 6 years and a specialist in the formulation of biomaterials, for my internship.
What’s your secret to reconciling your studies with your career as a pro athlete?
I’m passionate about my studies and sport, and combining the two is a choice and a way of balancing my life. For the rest, it’s a question of organization to combine training schedules, courses and internships.
What is your mission at Elixance?
I’m an intern on the R&D team. My subject is the development of biomaterials based on recycled polymers and natural fibers. More specifically, I’ve formulated biocomposites from coir, flax, jute and other fibers. An interesting subject, in line with my studies and my desire to develop eco-responsible products. I’d like to thank the R&D team (Agathe, Alexis, Jérémy, Violette and Lou) and Bruno Legentil for welcoming me and giving me the opportunity to combine this internship with my career as a professional rugby player.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to play in the top 14 with the team next year and help them stay in the top 14. I’m also going to continue my studies.
The RCV victory in 3 words:

Historic first for a Breton club in TOP 14
